Ubbink UK have been made aware by Persimmon (South East), that lead theft from new build sites is an unwelcome problem that seems to be here to stay. Not only does it result in extra costs to re-install and replace the stolen lead, but also the cost of damage incurred during the theft, and the time lost.
Alternatives have been identified, however, Ubbink's non-lead Flashing has been established as the “product of choice” and a real viable alternative to lead. The original single roll trial was succesful and Persimmon (South East) have now agreed to use Ubiflex on the whole development which will have 54 new homes in Sandgate, Kent.
Persimmon (North East), based in Newcastle have also recently agreed to trial Ubiflex on one of their sites in Penshaw, Tyne & Wear. On site support from Ubbink's technical department, will be available throughout the trial period to assist with installation and answer any questions.
Ubiflex is BBA certified and has no resale value, meaning that it will not be stolen from site. The product is mouldable and malleable like lead, unlike lead it is price stable and comes with a 25 year guarantee. When tested by the BRE it withstood 110mph force winds when the Ubiflex accessories were used.
