Isolight - Continuous Rooflights
A range of continuous rooflights which enable the specifier to incorporate a design feature which is truly beneficial to the character and environment of the building. Each Isolight is manufactured to individual project requirements and can be supplied to any length. The design and manufacture of Isolight is quality managed under ISO9001.

Isolight Quick Find

Function

Each system is fully self supporting. Using the latest UV protective polycarbonate glazing materials, Isolight will maintain its appearance for a guaranteed ten years.
Isolight is also ideally suited for refurbishment and replacement projects.
Systems require few architectural provisions but provide major benefits such as maintenance free design and improved levels of insulation.

Materials/Structure
Structured Polycarbonate Systems
Minimum span 1100mm/Maximum span 6000mm (Overall upstand size)
Support structure: mill-finished extruded aluminium (enamelled paint and anodised finish also available).
Thermal expansion is allowed for in the glazing bar.
EPDM gaskets make the rooflight fully watertight.
Glazing: 10mm, 16mm and 20mm structured polycarbonate with long life UV protection. Clear, opal and heatshield.
Vertical ends: glazed or wall connection detail.

Solid Polycarbonate Systems
Minimum span 600mm/ maximum span 6000mm (overall upstand size).
Support structure: mill-finished extruded aluminium (enamelled paint and anodised finish also available).
Glazing: solid polycarbonate sheet (3mm minimum thickness) with longlife UV protection. Clear, diffused, opal and bronze finish.
Double and triple skin glazing supplied as preformed cassette.
Vertical ends:glazed, wall connection detail, permanent ventilation grille or extraction fan unit.

Upstands
Isolights are designed to suit overall upstand dimensions specified.
All upstands are supplied on site by others.
Minimum width: 50mm timber/80mm concrete.
Minimum height: 150mm for all.
Equivalent supporting members may also be used. Care must be taken to ensure upstands are secured to the building structure are capable of withstanding all loadings from the rooflight installation.

Shapes
Isolight rooflights are available in a number of different shapes to suit your various requirements. You will see from the illustrations below the various shapes that Ubbink has to offer.

Opening Options
Isolight has an unparalleled range of options as to how each rooflight opens.
The various types available are shown in the following diagrams

Ventilation
Efficient ventilation is clearly a vital factor in achieving a healthy environment. But equally important in the control of condensation.

As this occurs when high humidity encounters a cold surface, the use of double and triple skins will naturally minimise the risk of condensation forming on the surface of the glazing unit. However, windows that provide precise control can further contribute by leading away the humid air without simply replacing it with cold air.
Of course, even this fine balance may not be maintainable under extreme environmental conditions.

Within the Isolight system Ubbink can offer a solution for all types of ventilation. The five basic types of ventilation window:
Manual, Electrical, Pneumatic, Weather Activated Sensor, Heat Activated Sensor
(sensors are a specialist option - details on request)
The two photographs opposite illlustrate that an Isolight that offers almost total ventilation when open is undetectable when closed.

Security
Isolight uses polycarbonate as the glazing material, which is 250 times stronger than glass. Additional security to glazing bars can be obtained by using 'snake eye' fixings or a capping section.

Fire
External exposure designation:
Polycarbonate performs well under fire conditions. All Isolights glazing achieves the highest FAA rating.
The polycarbonate used to construct Isolight has a Tp(a) rigid classification as described in Approved Document B of the Building Regulations.

Surface spread of flame:
Polycarbonate has a Class 1 surface spread of flame to BS476 Part 7 1987.

Class O:
Whilst not a classification identified in any British Standard test, Class O is recognised as the highest level of product performance for lining materials. To obtain a Class O classification a material must be:

Of limited combustibility as described in Approved Document B, or

A Class 1 material which has a fire propagation index (l) of not more than 12 and sub-index (i1) of not more than 6.

Polycarbonate is a Class O material.

Durability
Change in colour will be measured by a yellowness index test to ASTM D 1925 (1977). All Isolight polycarbonate glazing is manufactured from polycarbonate sheet material which has a longlife weather resistant outer surface. The manufacturer gives a 10 year warranty based on the material's weather resistant properties.

Installation
A supply and fix service is available nationwide through Ubbink's network of approved contractors. For units with specialist opening panels it is recommended that approved contractors are used.
