Materials
Single skin dome lights and the inner and outer skins of multi-skin lights
are manufactured in clear polycarbonate which has a specialist UV stabilised
outer surface. Tinted and opal outer skins and diffused inner skins are
also available.
Upstand curbs are manufactured in insulated GRP and in PVC to match the
dome light sizes available.
Light frames for ventilation and access are manufactured from PVC-U whilst
circular and specialist opening frames are manufactured from aluminium.
Shapes and Sizes
The range includes square, rectangular and circular units with pyramids
or domes in the sizes shown in the following
tables
| Celeste
dome lights are coded by their daylight area, complete units including
dome light and upstand curb are also coded by the daylight area. |
|
Maximum
custom made curb size for dome only applications is daylight area
plus 130mm. Absolute dome size is 160mm greater than the daylight
area. |

Celeste
upstand curbs
GRP
rectangular upstands are available in two heights - 150mm
unvented and 300mm vented or unvented.
PVC
upstands and GRP circular upstands are unvented and available
150mm high only.
Curb
adaptors in aluminium are available to allow standard dome
light sizes to be fitted to non-standard or site prepared
upstands. |

Light
Frames
Opening light frames are available to fit all square, rectangular
and circular Celeste upstands. All Celeste opening light frames are supplied
complete with hinges and catch/stay or control gear hardware.
Opening
Gear
A hand operated mechanical stay holds the light at any position from
closed to a maximum opening of 280mm using an opening rod.
An electrically operated mechanical stay holds the light at any position
from closed to a maximum opening of 280mm using a wall mounted control
box.
Larger size units require special tandem units.
|
Access
Gear
Units can be supplied with a hand operated catch which
secures the light in a closed position but which can be released
to allow access to the roof for maintenance or as an escape
route. These units can have either chain restrainers or telescopic
stays to prevent overswing when opening.
The chain restrainers will support the light at the fully
open position.
Telescopic stays also support the light at the fully open
position. However, once the catch is released, these stays
act to aid opening and the catch must be re-engaged for the
light to remain closed.
Access gear can be fitted to square and rectangular units
up to a maximum daylight area size of 1000 x 1000mm.

|
Smoke
& Heat Activated Gear
Smoke and heat activated opening gear is available.
These units require specialist light frames, and actuator
gear is designed to meet individual specification requirements.
Further details are available on request. |

Ventilation
Celeste 300mm square and rectangular upstands can be supplied with
a built-in manually controlled vent to two opposite sides as standard.
Each vent has a free vent area of not less than 4000mm².
Accessories
Manual gear rods: 1m and 2m opening rods, designed for use with the
hand operated mechanical stay, are available and are recommended to ensure
trouble-free operation of the spindle gear.

Security
Celeste polycarbonate outer dome lights are extremely tough
and give excellent protection against vandalism and sudden impact.
Ubbink supply tamper resistant fixings which make the unauthorised
dismantling of Celeste lights from their upstands extremely difficult.
One way clutch-head fixings are also available for a small additional
charge.

Light
Transmission / Privacy
Celeste rooflights are designed to give the optimum daylight area
in relation to the roof aperture size. Clear polycarbonate has a very
high level of transmission and spread of light. Tinted domes are available
but afford a high reduction in light transmission.
Where privacy is required, Ubbink recommend domes with a diffused
inner skin which obscures vision with the minimum loss of light transmission.
Opal may also be used but with a reduction in light transmission.
An alternative approach to privacy is to fit pleated polyester blinds
to square and rectangular units glazed with clear polycarbonate. |

U
Values
Celeste upstand units have good thermal insulation performance.
Their use with double and triple skin dome lights will minimise the
risk of condensation under normal conditions. However, where units
are used in areas of high condensation, statutory ventilation requirements
must be maintained. |

Fire
External exposure designation:
Polycarbonate performs well under fire conditions. All Celeste polycarbonate
domes achieve the highest external rating - FAA.
The polycarbonate used to construct Celeste domes has a Tp(a) rigid classification
as described in Approved Document B of the Building Regulations.
Surface spread of flame:
Polycarbonate has a Class 1 surface spread of flame to BS476: Part 7.
Class
O
Whilst not a classification identified in any British Standard test, Class
O is recognised as the highest level of product performance for lining
materials. To obtain Class O classification a material must be:
a) of limited combustibility as described in Approved
Document B, or
b) a Class 1 material which has a fire propogation index (l) of not more
than 12 and sub-index (11)
of
not
more than 6.
Polycarbonate is a Class O material.
Durability
All Celeste polycarbonate domes are manufactured from polycarbonate
sheet materials which a longlife weather resistant outer surface. The
manufacturer gives a 10 year guarantee based on the material's weather
resistant properties.
Certification
Celeste rooflights are covered by Wimlas Certificate of Assessment
No 078/00.
