Applications:
Mechanically Assisted Ventilation Systems are suitable for
dwellings, commercial buildings and flats, where, due to the
room layout or the number of extract points required, PSV
systems are impractical. They have the additional advantage
that all extract ducts can be vented through a single roof
terminal.
Authority:
Mechanically Assisted Ventilation systems are
recognised by the BRE and are included in the revised
Building Regulations England and Wales Approved Document
F1: 1995 and Scotland Approved Scottish Technical Standard 3 2005 as an
effective alternative to traditional methods.
System
Design:
Mechanically Assisted Ventilation systems incorporate the
whole house ventilation concept of PSV
systems. However, the addition of a 'quiet running' fan unit
increases flexibility of design and allows more complex requirements
to be met.
The fan unit, which is generally located in the loft space
(or a convenient cupboard), eliminates noise or vibration
annoyance and ensures optimum performance.
As with PSV systems, Ubbink offer a
complete design service, providing a customised ventilation
system to meet the specific requirements. The design service
offers specifiers the guarantee of an effective ventilation
system that conforms with all relevant Building Regulations
and individually specified criteria.
Control:
Mechanically Assisted Ventilation systems incorporate a manually
operated speed controller (normally sited in the kitchen area).
The controller has three settings: regular setting is suitable
for everyday conditions, boost can be used when internal activities
such as cooking etc. generate unusual levels of moisture.
There is also an economy setting for background ventilation.
Humidity control options are also available for Mechanically
Assisted Ventilation systems.
Building Regulations:
The Building Regulations England and Wales Approved Document
F1 :1995 and Scotland Approved Scottish Technical Standard 3 2005 recognises
the benefits of Mechanically Assisted whole house ventilation
systems as an alternative to mechanical fans and provide
guidelines for their use.
